i’m happy you’re here (:
my name is matt, and i am a ‘systems person’ who believes housing is the most foundational aspect of every single person’s life.
my dog is named chloe. i received my GED from minneapolis public schools, and i’m a small-time landlord (it’s weird, but it’s only 2 units). i’m a child of divorce, was homeless/car camped in my teen years, and evicted from my 2nd favorite apartment i ever lived in because i couldn’t afford to pay my rent. i was born in central wisconsin, but i moved to minneapolis when i was sixteen and it will forever be my home. forever.
i currently work for the city of madison, wi, in community development where i manage the city’s funding processes for affordable housing, our support for tenant services, and (formerly) our emergency rental assistance program. i lead equity teams, resource teams, and internal working groups that ask a lot of ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions.
a lot of my work is trying to make city government clearer, easier to understand, and more equitable. almost always long-term planning to support people who live here and/or want to. but also sometimes leading processes to help get people what they need right now.
networking is not my thing. i’m trying to be more vulnerable. and i’m currently taking my turn in the chair as president of the american planning association - wisconsin chapter.
